Food And Excercise Focused Weekend

In the south there is one major things that dictate most decisions in a persons day, and epically in social situations: Food. I have noticed that a lot of what I do and one of my hobbies happens to revolve around the topic, however, I think it is a huge part of southern culture and embrace it despite its set backs. This being said, my weekend revolved around food. Saturday brought the farmer's market as usual and while we have been buying a lot of food from the venue, we have had to scale back. It isn't that we are not finding a lot of food that we want, we are just not finding enough time to cook all of it in a week (and since they are void of preservatives and chemicals)and thus go bad. This week included: a farmer's market canvas bag (proceeds going back into the venue itself), eggplant, red potatoes, onions, and green tomatoes. We had already purchased some of that delicious locally raised and butchered beef at one of the upscale markets here in town. That being said, Saturday night consisted of the wife and I making tacos from the ground beef and a batch of fried green tomatoes (my wifes project). It was amazing. I also have to mention that we went to the gym for the fourth time in a week on Saturday and even went shopping around town and came back to walk to the dogs for an additional 2 miles. It was a great day.
Sunday brought on another long walk and then our attempt at another new recipe. First, I have to mention that Cajun Bayou's new location in Overtan Square is amazing and they have a really great bar and late night menu if anyone is looking to try somewhere new. Their Sunday brunch is also really fresh and worth trying. Ok, the recipe we decided to try was in this month's Men's Health and was one of Jon Besh's (famous chef and owner of August Restaurant in New Orleans) divulged his jambalaya recipe. It is a chicken, shrimp, and andouille sausage jambalaya and was out of this world. Granted, this isn't a recipe that you can through together from stuff that you usually have around the house, but with some special planning it is an amazing dinner. We also had plenty of left overs for the rest of the week. We are talking pork sausage, bacon, andouille sausage, chicken, shrimp, onions, celery, peppers, spices, rice, and garlic hot sauce. It was amazing.
I also bought a lot of books this weekend and a mortar and pestle, but that will be on tomorrow's "What's New" post.
Have a good one!
